Tempered glass

Glass that’s all about strength

Tempered glass is often referred to as "safety glass." It is more resistant to breakage than normal float glass. And if it is broken, it usually breaks into relatively small particles, which are less likely to cause serious injury.

Characteristics

• Approximately five times stronger than annealed glass of equal thickness
• Greater resistance to thermally-induced stress than heat-strengthened or annealed glass
• Tempered glass is mandated in many parts of the world by individual country regulations or specifications

Applications

• Suitable where safety glazing is required by building codes or design specifications
• Fire knock-out panels
• All glass entrances and storefronts
• Extreme wind loads
• Fireplace enclosures

Availability

• Clear and green
• Thicknesses from 1/8" to 1/2"); maximum width 96", and maximum lengths up to 120"
• Other glass thicknesses may be available on request
